The number of expatriates in the Philippines has consistently grown over the years as more multinational operations create their presence in the country as part of their expansion plans.
Around 500 expatriates participated in a recent survey made by the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy. This Singapore-based group wanted to determine their preference as regards expatriate living. The top choice was the Philippines based on totality in quality of life. The positive indicators working in favor of this country are in terms of no communication/language barrier, better housing opportunities and exciting recreational as well as nightlife activities.
The fact that the locals are familiar with the English language, you are bound to find a person who can help you in case you get lost or need directions in going somewhere. Filipinos are very fond of foreigners and are willing to help a stranger in need. Other factors that make the Philippines an appealing second home or permanent domicile for expatriates include the cheap or affordable cost of living as compared to other Asian countries. You will not be bored as the different cities have amenities and activities that you can engage in.
According to the Philippine National Police, crime rates have gone down by 7% in 2006 from 2005 figures. A further reduction is anticipated in 2007. Although the Philippines is among the Asian countries registering the lowest crime rates in the world, several of these criminal activities victimized foreigners living here. Facing similar experiences as their Filipino counterparts, expatriates are subject to the same dangers and problems that beset this country.
