Although they're still trying to live down their "killing fields"
reputation, the Government of Cambodia is working hard to attract
foreign visitors and residents and the money that comes with
them.
There's plenty of apartments for rent in Phnom Penh and prices
are still reasonable. Unfortunately, the best way to find one is
to go there and beat the streets. Internet listings are few and
far between and you don't want to wire money to a
faceless person before you arrive.
There's a happening nightlife in and around PP with bars and
nightclubs doing a brisk business. The government occasionally
sticks their noses into the scene as evidenced by a ban a few
years ago on discotheques and karaoke club for some reason.
The word lately, however, is that the citizens are up to their
old racial profiling tricks and "foreigners" are starting to feel
a bit unwelcome. Unless you have a strong reason to be in
Cambodia, I would search for friendlier skies.
