Owning Property in Chile

retirement in thailand concept Property ownership in Chile has significant procedural requirements, but very little of the drama found in Asian countries.

  • Shell companies are not required
  • Nominees are not required
  • Percentage of condominium allocation to foreigners is not an issue

You can buy land at the beach, in the mountains or on the plains. That's the good news. The better news, it's not even all that expensive.

You can also buy apartments, houses and golf memberships. You don't even need residency to qualify for property ownership in Chile. Realistically, you will need to get a tourist visa to have access to that great golf course condo in La Serena, but that's very easy.

You can buy some awfully nice houses and condos under US$ 100,000. A great house at the beach for under US$ 200,000. Good investment and legal advice and handling is a requirement for property purchases. Do your homework.

Chile is recognized as the least corrupt country in South America. Financial transactions and ownership are very transparent. Infoplease rates Chile at # 22 on the corruption list. The USA is # 20 and Belgium is # 21.

Never, ever try to bribe a cop!
